Google has just rolled out a new update for Google Maps that may make your life a lot easier. This update to Google Maps now integrates ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft.
The experience is pretty simple and streamlined. Looking for a place to eat? Search up restaurants near you on Google Maps and compare the ratings. Decide on a restaurant that you want to eat at, and click on the "Book a ride" tab that allows you to see estimated fare rates from Uber, Lyft, and even the good ole taxi cab (you remember those right? The yellow cars with the funny signs at the top).
What does this mean for you?
Basically, it makes it easier for you to get places. It may also make it cheaper for you to get there. With the way Google has implemented the feature, allows users to compare real time estimates between competitors to always find the cheapest ride. This in the long term, may force companies to lower their fares in an all out price war. Bad news for them, but good news for users as this means you'll be getting cheaper fares.
