Snapchat, one of the most popular image messaging and multimedia mobile applications, recently released its first of a kind, Spectacles. The only place you will be able to find and purchase these functional glasses are through specifically placed pop-up vending machines (Snapbot), which are currently priced at $130. They can also be found on eBay starting around $400, as which you can see are becoming a must have for Snapchat enthusiasts.
How do they work?
As of now, the Spectacles function as sunglasses and a video recorder. There are two small circular lenses, one on the top right for the camera and on the left that has circular rings of LEDs that light up when a video is being recorded. They are mounted onto lightweight plastic frames that have UV protection lenses. They currently have three colors: coral, teal, and black.
How long will they last?
The camera unit runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be recharged by folding and placing them back into the Spectacle's original case. So make sure you have them with you where ever you go. Simple and easy to use!

One of the great things about the Spectacles is that they are made so that you are more hands-free. This allows the users to have more freedom in their movements when traveling or doing activities that require both hands. Snapchat in a way is trying to compete with GoPro by allowing its users to record 10-second videos by tapping on the frames. The camera can hold a certain amount of videos before having to upload them onto your Snapchat account by phone.
Some people may like having the Spectacles for recording their videos and some may not, but one of the best things about having the Spectacles is that you wont have the risk of dropping and breaking or losing your $600 smartphone.
Where can I find one?
Since these are sunglasses, they can't be fully utilized indoors or at nighttime. So if you're an outdoor person that likes to be out in the sun, whether its going to the beach or attending a music festival, these are perfect for you. Remember these can only be found at specifically placed Snapbots or on Ebay. The current known locations are:
1. Venice Beach, CA
2. Big Sur, CA
3. Catoosa, OK
So getting your hands on a pair may be a little challenging. You can find a Snapbot by checking their Website or by checking out Snapbot Spotter. Remember don't be discouraged if you cant find one, because sooner rather than later a Snapbot may open up a location near you!
